Information we process

FERN Atlas and Atlas Docs AI process account details supplied through Clerk, including email address, name and profile image; your searches, research threads, cited sources, settings, usage and subscription status; and, in FERN Atlas, documents you upload for analysis. Atlas Docs AI does not accept uploads or request location for weather.

Cookies, device information, and optional input

We use cookies and browser storage for sign-in, security, preferences, and notification choices. Hosting and identity providers may process IP addresses, device/browser information, and security logs. You can manage cookies and permissions in your browser; disabling necessary storage may prevent sign-in or other features from working.

If you use voice dictation, microphone audio is sent for transcription and the resulting text is used as your prompt. If you allow location access for weather in FERN Atlas, location information is used to obtain weather results. You can revoke microphone and location permissions in your browser or device settings. Atlas Docs AI does not request location for weather.

How we use it

We use this information to authenticate you, provide and improve research answers, store your account workspace, prevent abuse, administer subscriptions, and provide support. We do not sell personal information or use your research threads or uploaded documents for advertising.

Service providers

We use Clerk for identity, Railway and PostgreSQL for application hosting and storage, Clerk and its payment processors for web billing, Apple for in-app subscription transactions, and the AI, search, weather, transcription, speech, and graph providers you select or that are enabled for the service. Your prompt, relevant research context, and document extracts may be sent to those providers to generate an answer. Atlas Docs AI sends accepted questions to its AI provider, web search, and ServiceNow-documentation search. Provider handling is governed by their own terms and privacy practices.

Optional features and diagnostics

If you enable browser push notifications, we store the subscription endpoint and delivery keys needed to send search-completion notices through your browser’s push service. You can turn notifications off in your browser or device settings. Answer text may be sent to the speech provider to generate audio, including preparing initial playback before you press Play. We also process operational diagnostics, such as model names, completion status, timing, and error categories, to monitor reliability; configured monitoring services may receive these diagnostics.

Retention and choices

We retain workspace data while your account is active. You can delete individual searches in the app or delete your account from Settings → Account & Legal. Account deletion removes your account and associated workspace data, except limited records we must retain for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, or security obligations. Copies you export or send to others are outside your Atlas workspace and are not removed by account deletion. Service providers may retain records under their applicable policies and legal obligations. Apple subscription cancellation is managed in your Apple ID subscription settings.

Retention depends on the purpose, account activity, security needs, and legal obligations. Deletion from the active workspace may not immediately remove residual backups or provider logs; those records remain subject to applicable retention and deletion practices. Contact us about data that cannot be managed through your account.

Your privacy requests

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, obtain a copy of, or delete personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Send requests to legal@fernatlas.com. We may need to verify your identity using information reasonably necessary for your request. We will respond under applicable law and explain any lawful limits; you may also contact your local privacy regulator.

We process information to provide the service you request, meet legal obligations, and support legitimate operational interests such as security and reliability, subject to applicable law. Where consent is required for processing, you can withdraw it without affecting prior lawful processing. Information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our providers operate; applicable safeguards and legal requirements govern those transfers.

Children and sensitive information

The service is not directed to children under 13. Do not use it if you are under 13, or below a higher minimum age required by local law. If you believe a child has supplied personal information contrary to this policy, contact legal@fernatlas.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Do not submit passwords, API secrets, or sensitive information that you lack authority to share. This service is not an emergency-response system.

Security and contact

No internet service can guarantee absolute security. For privacy requests or questions, contact legal@fernatlas.com . For product support, contact help@fernatlas.com .

Changes

We will publish changes on this page and update the effective date. We will provide notice of material changes and require acceptance of the current Terms and Privacy Policy before starting new research. Account deletion, billing, and support remain available without accepting updated documents.
